Himal Gurung lives in Pokhara with his family. The people of different ethnic groups live in Kaski district. The Gurung, Brahmins, Kshatris, Newars, Tamangs, Magars and Thakalis are the main inhabitants of kaski district. The other castes like Muslims, Gandarva, Bishowkarma, Bhotia, Tharu, Sunuwar and Thakuri also live in this district.

They follow different religions, custom and traditions. Most of the people of kaski district are Hindus. Other religions like Buddhism, Christianity, Kiranti, Bon and Islam are also found in Kaski district. Although the people of this district follow their own religions, they pay due to respect to other religions, too. They celebrate different festivals every year. They speak in different languages. Gurung, Magar, Newari, Thakali, Nepali and Tamang languages are spoken in the district.

The people wear different costumes of their castes during festivals and important occasions. The Gurung women wear Ghaleks, Tikiya, Patuki and Cholo and men wear Kachhad and Bhangra. The Newari girls and women wear Haku Patasi. The Tamang women wear Shirbandi, Chowbandi and Lungi. The women in the villages mostly wear Sari, Cholo and Patuka and the men wear Daura Suruwal, Coat and Cap. The Magars also wear their traditional dresses like Kachhad and Bhangra.
The residents of Kaski district communicate in Nepali, Gurung, Magar, Tamang, Newari and Thakali languages. The students should follow their languages, custom and traditions. They should practice in celebrating festivals. - Swarnim Publications
